The former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan has been arrested by the paramilitary forces of Pakistan from the Islamabad High Court.

Imran Khan poilitical party's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf spokeperson Fawad Chaudhary said that, "Khan was abducted from Court premises. Scores of lawyers and general people have been tortured".

"Imran Khan has been whisked away by unknown people to an unknown location" and the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court has ordered Secretary Interior and the IG police to appear in the Court within fifteen minutes, Chaudhary added.

According to the report, Khan was arrested by paramilitary forces immediately upon entering the compound, with the forces arriving in armoured personnel carriers.

The arrest is likely to cause political tensions in the country, as his supporters are likely to take to the streets to protest against what they see as a politically motivated move by the authorities.

The police tried to arrest Khan from his Lahore residence last month in March but were unable to do so due to protests from his supporters.
