In response to attacks on American forces, the United States executed precision strikes on two Iran-linked sites in Syria, according to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

According to a report in The New Indian Express, this marks the third such action in less than three weeks, targeting locations associated with Iran.

The strikes focused on a training facility and a safe house near Albu Kamal and Mayadeen cities respectively. Previous strikes on Tehran-linked sites in Syria occurred on Wednesday (8 November) and 26 October.

Washington has reported no casualties from these actions, emphasising their aim to deter attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria, with over 45 incidents since 17 October.

The recent surge in attacks is linked to the Israel-Hamas conflict, originating from a cross-border attack by Hamas on 7 October.

Israel's response has led to widespread criticism in the Middle East, including from Iran-backed groups.

The US maintains around 2,500 troops in Iraq and about 900 in Syria to prevent the resurgence of the Islamic State group.

The Gaza conflict's impact extends to Yemen, where Iran-backed Houthi rebels claim to have shot down a US drone conducting surveillance in support of Israel. US officials confirm the drone incident, reflecting broader implications of the regional tensions.
