India Terms Incident "Disgraceful" After Pro-Khalistan Radicals Block Indian High Commissioner's Visit To Glasgow Gurudwara

Indian High Commissioner to UK Vikram Doraiswami

India expressed strong condemnation for the incident in Glasgow where Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, was prevented from entering a gurudwara by a group of pro-Khalistan activists.

This act was deemed "disgraceful" by the Indian government.

The High Commission of India in the UK has reported the incident to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Metropolitan Police.

Various community organisations, including the event organisers, have formally expressed regret for the incident. They have also called on the authorities to take necessary measures against those responsible for the disruption at the gurudwara.

The Indian envoy, after encountering pro-Khalistan activists, decided not to enter the gurudwara and instead proceeded to his next engagement.

This incident occurs amidst a diplomatic dispute in the aftermath of Canadian PM Justin Trudeau's claims of a possible connection between the Indian government and the murder of pro-Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has dismissed these allegations as baseless and politically motivated.

During his visit to Scotland, Doraiswami received an invitation from the gurudwara management in Glasgow. However, a small group of protesters gathered outside the gurudwara, chanting slogans and preventing him from entering the premises.
