On Thursday (23 November), violent protests erupted in Dublin, Ireland following a knife attack near a school that left three children injured.
The victims, including a seriously injured five-year-old girl, a five-year-old boy, and a six-year-old girl, were attacked by a man in his fifties who was subsequently taken into custody.
Rumors about the assailant's nationality on social media fueled tensions, leading to clashes between protesters and police, reported NDTV.
Some demonstrators carried signs reading "Irish Lives Matter," reflecting anti-immigrant sentiments amid Ireland's housing crisis.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee condemned the violence, stating that such actions "cannot and will not be tolerated."
Prime Minister Leo Varadkar expressed shock over the incident, and EU chief Ursula von der Leyen conveyed her dismay at the "brutal attack."
Despite the chaos, Police Chief Superintendent Patrick McMenamin later reported that calm had been restored, and no serious injuries were reported.
The incident is not believed to be terror-related, and investigations are ongoing.
Government officials called for a thorough investigation and urged the public to remain calm in the aftermath of the disturbing events.
