Israeli PM Netanyahu
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in a recent speech to his ruling party, condemned Israel as a "terrorist state", accusing it of implementing a strategy of "total annihilation".
Erdogan vowed to take steps to ensure that Israel's political and military leaders face trial in international courts for their actions in Gaza.
In response, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired back, accusing Erdogan of supporting the "terror state of Hamas".
Netanyahu further said, "by contrast, there are forces that support the terrorists. One of them is President Erdogan of Turkey, who calls Israel a terrorist state, but supports the terror state of Hamas and bombed Turkish villages inside Turkey itself. So, we're not going to get any lectures from them."
Erdogan further claimed that Netanyahu threatened Gaza with nuclear bombs, warning that Israel's end is near.
The Turkish President had previously cancelled a planned visit to Israel, stating that while Turkey has no problem with the Israeli state, it condemns atrocities committed by Tel Aviv.
In a related development, a UN Security Council resolution calling for "extended humanitarian pauses" in Gaza was met with Israel's demand for the release of hostages held by Hamas.
