Pakistan's former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, currently in self-imposed exile, is set to unveil a roadmap to rescue the financially-strained nation during an assembly in Punjab province's capital on 21 October, as per a recent media report.

The Lahore district administration granted permission for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party to convene at the Minar-e-Pakistan, a move aimed at rallying support for Sharif's imminent return later in the week.

Speaking at a party convention, PML-N vice president Hamza Shehbaz emphasised that Pakistan would recommence its path towards progress and prosperity with Sharif's return.

Shehbaz noted that Sharif would delineate a strategy to extricate the country from its economic challenges during his address at Minar-e-Pakistan.

Highlighting the PML-N's role in averting financial crisis, Hamza Shehbaz underscored their political and strategic efforts, contrasting them with the policies of the incumbent government led by Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which, according to him, brought the nation to the brink of default.

Referring to the pivotal agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Hamza contended that without it, Pakistan would have faced bankruptcy.

He lamented the PTI's divisive politics and referenced past incidents to support his assertion.

Malik Ahmed, a PML-N leader, echoed the sentiment of transformation and optimism associated with Sharif's return, stating that 21 October would mark the initiation of Pakistan's journey towards resurgence and prosperity.

The PML-N plans to conduct a substantial public gathering not only to welcome Nawaz Sharif but also to assert its influence and counter the PTI's previous use of the venue to showcase its popularity.

In response to the request for the public meeting at Minar-e-Pakistan, the deputy commissioner's office issued a no objection certificate, urging organisers to ensure safety measures, including security, and to prohibit offensive slogans.

Meanwhile, the PTI's request for a public rally in the provincial capital awaits a decision.

The PTI alleges a crackdown on its members and supporters, particularly as its chairman, Imran Khan, remains incarcerated.
