As per this report, the BJP has identified 73,000 booths all over India where it is in a vulnerable position with regards to the general election in 2024. Consequently, the party has reportedly constituted a committee to revamp the party's prospects at these booths.
Who is on the committee?
The committee will be headed by the party's national vice president and spokesperson Baijayant “Jay” Panda. General secretary CT Ravi, MP Dilip Ghosh, and the BJP's Scheduled Caste Morcha President Lal Singh Arya are also on the committee.
This committee has penned a report and has suggested a strategy to improve the party's prospects in these weak booths.
The report will be placed before the BJP’s general secretaries in a meeting and a strategy will be decided upon.
How were the weaknesses identified?
The report also suggests that these booths, most of which are from southern and eastern states, have been identified on the basis of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Further, the party is working on a blueprint to strengthen its position in 150 such seats where its performance was not good in the last elections.
Why it matters
The BJP, under the current leadership, enters into an election fully and well prepared.
It knows that an election, and especially a Lok Sabha election, cannot be won merely in the period given for campaigning.
The results will only follow in 2024 if the work starts from today itself.
Bottomline
The largest opposition party, the Congress, is still trying to set its house in order, while the BJP seems to have started work on its plans for ‘24.
Large mandates and majorities are not created in a day or week or month. The BJP knows and respects that. It prepared similarly for the 2019 elections.
And we know the results.
