The Chinese embassy in Moscow issued a criticism on Friday (4 August) against Russia's "brutal and excessive law enforcement" following the denial of entry to five Chinese citizens by Russian authorities into the country.
The Chinese embassy, in a post on the Chinese social media platform WeChat, expressed its concern that the incident had "seriously damaged the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens".
According to the embassy's statement, the group of Chinese citizens attempted to enter Russia on 29 July but faced repetitive questioning for a duration of up to four hours.
Consequently, their tourist visas were revoked, and they were denied entry.
The embassy further emphasized that this incident is "inconsistent with the overall situation of friendly Sino-Russian relations and the trend of increasingly close friendly exchanges of personnel between the two countries".
It called upon the Russian authorities to promptly investigate the cause of the incident, take active measures to rectify any negative impact, and ensure the prevention of similar occurrences in the future.
Just two day after the Russia-Ukraine war, Russia and China agreed to a no-limit partnership.
Notably, China has refrained from condemning Russian President Vladimir Putin for the war in Ukraine.
