Students seeking admission in Delhi University (DU) colleges under the extracurricular activities (ECA) quota can increase their chances of securing a seat if they opt for theatre as their discipline, reports Hindustan Times.
According to the report, the maximum number of seats, 110, are available in theatre discipline under the ECA quota in 49 colleges of the varsity this year. Theatre is followed by Indian vocal music in which 83 seats are being offered in 53 colleges. As many as 80 seats are available in Indian Classical dance under the quota in 45 colleges while 65 seats are being offered in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in 24 colleges.
Under the ECA quota, there are 14 recognised activities this year - creative writing, dance, debate, digital media, fine arts, music, music instrumental (Indian), music instrumental (western), theatre, quiz, divinity, NCC, NSS and yoga.
The number of seats being offered by colleges in Yoga, which was shifted from the sports to ECA quota this year, is down to 10 from last year’s 23.
To avail ECA quota, candidates will have to appear in trials at two levels - preliminary and finals. The candidates will get 75 marks on the basis of trials and the remaining 25 on certificates submitted by them. The trials are likely to start from 25 June.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
