The total confirmed cases of Coronavirus infection on Thursday (4 June) surged to over 65 lakh globally, while the fatalities due to the deadly virus, which originated in China’s Wuhan city, have increased to over 3. 86 lakh, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
As of Thursday (4 June) evening, the overall number of cases stood at 6,528,544 while the death toll increased to 386,392, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
As many as 2,819,661 people have recovered from the disease globally, the CSSE data showed.
Currently, the US has 1,851,520 confirmed cases and 107,175 deaths, both tallies account for the highest in the world, according to the CSSE.
Meanwhile, in terms of cases, Brazil comes in second place with 584,016 infections.
This was followed by Russia (440,538), the United Kingdom (281,270), Spain (240,326), Italy (233,836), India (216,995), France (188,802), Germany (184,427), Peru (178,914), Turkey (166,422), Iran (160,696), the CSSE figures showed.
In terms of fatalities, the UK continues in the second position after the US with 39,811 COVID-19 deaths, which also accounts for the highest fatalities in Europe.
The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are Italy (33,601), Brazil (32,548), France (29,024), and Spain (27,128).
