A structure within an army transit camp at Dalang in Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh has been damaged following an avalanche which occurred several days ago, reports The Tribune. The impact on the structure only became apparent later on, on Sunday (3 February 2019).
The transit camp is utilised by the army during summer months as part of a supply line from Manali of essential items to troops stationed towards Leh. In winter months the camp is abandoned due to hostile weather conditions.
In a previous avalanche in 2014 at Dalang, two soldiers belonging to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were killed, although in the present incident no one has been hurt.
The district is generally considered to be susceptible to avalanches, and another avalanche on 1 February caused damage to a road bridge which connected three villages.
The administration of the district is surveying the loss caused by the avalanches and excessive snow.
Deputy Commissioner of the district Ashwani Kumar Chaudhari cautioned the public to take measures to stay clear of any untoward occurrences when they went out of their homes.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
