PPG Shankar, the state treasurer of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) SC/ST Wing was brutally killed by a group of miscreants on the night of 27 April while he was returning from Chennai.
The killers allegedly threw a country bomb at his car. When Shankar ran out of the car to save himself, he was chased and stabbed to death.
According to a news report, another person named PPG Kumaran had been similarly killed in 2012 and the same set of people could be behind Shankar's killing.
Expressing shock and grief at the incident, BJP state president K Annamalai said that this was one more indication of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. He added that if proper investigation was not done and the culprits not caught immediately, the party would hold protests across the state.
