Doordarshan’s Free Dish has mopped up around 30 million subscribers as other DTH operators have stagnated at around 67 million, reported Financial Express quoting data from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Compared to its competitors, Dish TV’s plans are cheaper at Rs 85 per month and viewers can also choose to pick up channels of their choice. Doordarshan’s Free Dish accounts for 40 per cent of the country’s 183 million cable and satellite (C&S) subscribers in 2017-18, reports KPMG.
Overall, 3.5 million subscribers of Dish TV have opted for channels on an a-la-carte basis. The total subscriber base stood at 23.3 million at the end of quarter one of 2019. Through a change in pricing strategy and packages, Dish TV claims that its Average Revenue Per User in quarter one19 increased to 214 from 201 in the previous quarter.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
