In a significant move to check the spread of COVID-19 from neighbouring Delhi, Uttar Pradesh (UP) Government has decided to test all the travellers from Delhi for COVID-19, reports Economic Times.
State's Chief Secretary R K Tiwari said that the administration is testing everyone coming from Delhi to the State, be it by air, train or bus. The move comes as not only has Delhi been witnessing a strong upsurge in new COVID-19 cases, but bordering districts of UP have also begun to witness an increase lately.
When asked about the kind of curbs which may be imposed on social gatherings, Tiwari shared that the Government will be making a decision on that based on the prevailing situation. He shared that Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad have already restricted the social gatherings to 100 people.
Delhi has been witnessing a fresh spurt of COVID-19 cases lately, prompting the Union Ministry for Home Affairs (MHA) to take notice and step in to contain the situation.
In this respect, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had recently announced several measures which included the doubling of RT-PCR testing in the national capital and increased number of ICU beds. Shah had also announced that more number of doctors and medical staff would be airlifted into Delhi from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
