Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday (14 April) tested positive for Covid-19. This comes a day after he had isolated himself after a few officials in his secretariat tested positive for the coronavirus infection.

Making the development public via Twitter, CM Adityanath said (as translated from Hindi), "On showing the initial symptoms, I got tested for Covid-19 and my report has come positive. I am in self-isolation and fully following the advice of physicians. I am doing all tasks virtually."

He has also asked all the people who may have come in contact with him to get tested for Covid-19 and exercise precautions.

According to the government spokesman, the Chief Minister will continue to hold meetings virtually and will monitor the Covid situation in the state.

He had earlier stated that in illness, fire, and floods, prevention rather than carelessness is the best cure. He further cautioned people against believing in rumors, and said: “The best cure for coronavirus is prevention and we must take all possible measures to save our citizens.”

He also urged everyone to follow the Indian government and UP state government guidelines for the Covid-19 pandemic.
