Yoga, India’s ancient meditation and spiritual tradition now enjoys an increasingly large and growing fan following in China, with the China-India Yoga College which was established in June 2015 planning to spread its offerings to more locations to meet with the increased demand, reports Financial Express.
The college was opened in Yunnan province as part of a Delhi-Beijing cultural exchange programme and Yoga has gained traction in China for promoting a healthy lifestyle.
The first branch of the college was inaugurated on Saturday (22 December) at Yunnan University, located in the town of Lijiang. The opening is part of a country-wide partnership programme to develop highly skilled yoga professionals.
The college’s dean Chen Lyuan states that eventually 50 branches will be set up to propound Yoga training across the country. Around 100 yoga teaching centres will also be established to conduct workshops and non-profit courses.
Currently, the China-India Yoga College takes in graduates from Yunnan Minzu University located in Kunming city.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
