Agra-Gwalior Greenfield Expressway: NHAI Inks Pact For Rs 4,613 Crore High-Speed Road Corridor

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a concession agreement with GR Infraprojects Ltd. for the construction of the 88 km long, six-lane, access-controlled Agra-Gwalior Greenfield Expressway (NH-719D).

The agreement was signed in the presence of NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav and senior officials from both the Authority and the concessionaire.

The expressway will stretch from Deori village in Agra to Susera village in Gwalior, traversing the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways said in a statement.

To be developed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (Toll) model at a total capital cost of Rs 4,613 crore, including land acquisition, the project is expected to be completed in 30 months.

The 20 year concession period also includes construction time.

During the construction period, the concessionaire will receive Rs 820 crore in construction support, linked to project progress.

Overlay and strengthening, road safety and improvement measures for the existing National Highway on NH-44 have also been included in the Agra-Gwalior project agreement.

Notably, the project was awarded at a 17.17 per cent premium on realisable fee against the expected 2.42 per cent, with revenue sharing to commence from the second year post-completion, increasing annually by 1 per cent.

Designed to decongest NH-44 and cut down travel time between Agra and Gwalior, the expressway will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, including eight major bridges, 23 minor bridges, six flyovers, one rail-over-bridge, and 192 culverts.

The alignment also passes through the National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary. To ensure ecological sensitivity, a cable-stayed bridge over the Chambal river will be constructed to protect the habitat of the endangered ‘Gadiyal’.

Additional wildlife mitigation features such as sound barriers and light cutters have been integrated into the design.
