Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday (16 October) dismissed speculation about rifts within the NDA in Bihar, saying the alliance will fight the upcoming Assembly elections under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, reported India today.

Shah stated that the BJP and its partners will make a decision on the Chief Minister once the results are announced.

He projected that the NDA will break all prior records when the results are released on 14 November.

Shah clarified, “I am not the one to decide whether Nitish Kumar will be CM or not. For now, we are contesting under Nitish Kumar’s leadership. After the elections, all allies will sit together and decide on their leader.”

Revealing a behind-the-scenes detail from the 2020 elections, Shah said Nitish had approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging that Bihar should have a BJP Chief Minister since the party had won more seats.

“But we always respected our alliance, and Nitish was made the Chief Minister based on the respect he had earned and his seniority,” Shah added.

Responding to Nitish’s political record and health, Shah noted that he had observed no erratic behavior in long conversations with the Chief Minister.

While some challenges may develop as a result of old age, he stated that not only the Chief Minister, but also his team, manage affairs alongside him.

Shah also attacked the Mahagathbandhan, saying people in Bihar who have witnessed Lalu Prasad Yadav’s rule don’t want to see its return, no matter how much times have changed.

Criticising Congress, he said, “By trying to belittle others and think small, the Congress itself has become small,” adding that this arrogance has cost it influence in states from Bihar to Bengal.
