Two Israeli embassy employees were shot dead outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC, on Wednesday night (21 May), NDTV reported.

"Two Israeli Embassy staffers were senselessly killed tonight near the Jewish Museum in Washington, DC," US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote in a post on X.

FBI Director Kash Patel said he was briefed on the shooting along with his team. "While we’re working with [Metropolitan Police Department] to respond and learn more, in the immediate, please pray for the victims and their families," he wrote on X.

US President Donald Trump, responding on Truth Social, condemned the killings by saying, "These horrible D.C. killings, based obviously on antisemitism, must end, NOW! Hatred and Radicalism have no place in the USA. Condolences to the families of the victims. So sad that such things as this can happen! God Bless You ALL!"

Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, described the shooting as "a depraved act of anti-Semitic terrorism."

"The fatal shooting that took place outside the event that took place at the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. is a depraved act of anti-Semitic terrorism. Harming the Jewish community is crossing a red line. We are confident that the US authorities will take strong action against those responsible for this criminal act. Israel will continue to act resolutely to protect its citizens and representatives – everywhere in the world," Danon said.

US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro and Attorney General Pam Bondi were present at the shooting site.
