Construction of a Bailey bridge over Limchagad between Gangnani and Dharali on the Gangotri National Highway has entered its final phase.

The modular bridge, which can be quickly assembled from pre-built parts, is expected to be ready by Sunday evening to reconnect disaster-hit areas of Uttarkashi and ensure food supplies reach affected residents , The New Indian Express reported.

Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli has directed officials to supply 2,000 litres of diesel daily to Dharali and transport LPG cylinders to impacted areas.

He also ordered the use of horses and mules to carry essential goods until roads are repaired.

Authorities are working on clearing multiple blockages along the highway at Songad, Dabrani, Harsil, and Dharali.

However, rain on Sunday morning hampered helicopter evacuations of stranded people.

More than 1,000 people had been evacuated by Saturday, while search operations for the missing in flood-ravaged Dharali continue with the help of SDRF sniffer dogs, thermal imaging cameras, and victim-locating equipment.

The SDRF is also preparing to deploy divers with rafts to support rescue efforts.
