After Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that reservations would be scrapped when India is a fair place, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati accused the grand old party of conspiring to do so for years.

When asked at Georgetown University in the US, how long the reservations would continue in India, Gandhi asserted that they can be scrapped only when India is a fair place and India is not a fair place now.

Taking note of this, Mayawati said that Gandhi's remarks make it clear that Congress has been conspiring to end the reservation of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) for years.

She accused the Congress of neither implementing OBC reservation nor conducting a caste census when it was in power and claimed that Gandhi's demand for a caste census was just a facade to come to power.

Mayawati cautioned SCs, STs and OBCs of the 'dangerous statement' given by Gandhi and said, "As soon as this party comes to power at the centre, it will definitely end the reservation under the pretext of this statement."

The BSP supremo accused the Congress of harbouring anti-reservation sentiments since the beginning and recalled that Dr B R Ambedkar resigned from the post of Law Minister because of this stance.

"When the reservation demand was not fulfilled in their government at the centre, Baba Saheb Ambedkar resigned because he did not get justice from this party. People should be cautious," Mayawati posted on X.

She asserted that the correct constitutional system of reservation should be continued until casteism is completely eradicated because, despite India's development, these communities would still remain backward.
