Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that her government has released Goods and Services Tax (GST) refunds worth Rs 694 crore for traders and entrepreneurs, reported The Indian Express.
She accused the previous administration of neglecting GST refund issues, which led to a major backlog.
Gupta said her government addressed the matter with urgency to ensure timely payments.
“Our effort is to ensure that by Diwali, substantial refund amounts reach the business community, further strengthening their faith in the government and making their festive celebrations even more joyous,” she stated.
To accelerate and streamline the process, the Delhi GST Department, in partnership with IIT Hyderabad, has launched an advanced IT module using data analytics, automation, and rapid verification tools.
Officials said the system has significantly improved the transparency and speed of refund settlements.
Government data shows that Delhi’s GST revenue rose by 6.56 per cent in the first half of the current financial year compared to the same period last year.
Between April 1 and 30 September, the city collected Rs 22,443.21 crore, up from Rs 21,061.65 crore in 2024.
The Delhi government has set a GST collection target of about Rs 49,000 crore for this fiscal year—Rs 5,000 crore higher than last year’s goal.
Officials expect revenues to climb further in the coming months, particularly during the festive season.
