The government on Wednesday (7 May) briefed the media on 'Operation Sindoor', in which the Indian armed forces destroyed terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
"On 22 April 2025, terrorists related to LeT and Pakistan attacked tourists in Kashmir's Pahalgam and killed 25 Indian nationals and 1 Nepali citizen... They shot tourists in the head in front of their family members," Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said during the press briefing.
Misri stated that Pakistan is a safe heaven for terrorists.
"Pakistan has been known to willfully mislead the world and international forums such as the Financial Action Task Force on this issue," he added.
"The case of Sajid Mir, who was found alive after international pressure, is evidence that Pakistan does not take any action against terrorists in its controlled areas," Misri said.
"Our intelligence agencies monitoring terrorist activities have indicated that there could be more attacks on India, and it was felt essential to both stop and tackle them," Misri said.
"Thus, compulsion, both to deter and prevent and hence earlier this morning, India exercised its right to respond to deter such more cross-border terrorism. Our actions were measured and non-escalatory, proportionate and responsible. They focused on dismantling terrorists' infrastructure," Misri added.
At the press briefing, Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said, "Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces to deliver justice to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and their families. Nine terrorist camps were targeted and successfully destroyed... The locations were so selected to avoid damage to civilian infrastructures and loss of any civilian lives."
According to Indian Army colonel Sofiya Quraishi said that the Operation Sindoor started at around 1.05 am on Wednesday (7 May) and continued for 25 minutes till 1.30 am.
