Indian armed forces eliminated over 80 terrorists in precision cross-border strikes early Wednesday (7 May), targeting terror camps in both Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POK), India Today reported citing top security sources.
Code-named 'Operation Sindoor', the strikes hit nine facilities linked to banned terrorist outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen.
The action followed the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
According to the officials cited in the India Today report, the biggest strikes occurred in Bahawalpur and Muridke, JeM and LeT bastions respectively, each resulting in 25–30 terrorist deaths.
Muridke’s Masjid wa Markaz Taiba — LeT’s ideological hub and the terror nursery of Pakistan — was a primary target.
While intelligence verification is underway, initial assessments estimate the total neutralised terrorist count to be between 80 and 90 across all sites.
Targets included launch pads, training sites, and radicalisation hubs operated by JeM and LeT — both sanctioned globally as terrorist outfits by the UN.
The Indian Army posted a video on X captioned “Justice is served" after the strikes.
Meanwhile, Pakistan claimed eight civilian deaths — including one child — and termed the operation a “blatant act of war.”
Additional JeM targets struck included Sarjal (Tehra Kalan), Markaz Abbas (Kotli), and Syedna Bilal (Muzaffarabad).
LeT sites hit were Barnala’s Markaz Ahle Hadith and Shwawai Nalla (Muzaffarabad). Hizbul camps in Kotli and Sialkot were also destroyed.
Of the nine targets, four were located inside Pakistan, and five in PoJK.
According to officials, no Pakistani military installations were targeted, although elements of the Pakistani Army, ISI, and Special Services Group (SSG) were allegedly involved in supporting the terrorist training infrastructure.
Following the strikes, Pakistan initiated heavy shelling across the LoC and International Border, in which three civilian were killed.
Indian troops are responding proportionately to the Pakistani firing.
