The foundation stone for the Rs 1,800 crore ‘Brahma–BEML Rail Manufacturing Hub’ was laid in Umaria village of Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh on Monday (10 August).

The ceremony was attended by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister and local MP Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, and other dignitaries, with Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joining virtually.

The state-of-the-art facility will be equipped for the design, manufacture, assembly, and testing of advanced rail systems including Vande Bharat trains, metro coaches, and select defence products.

It is expected to play a pivotal role in expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities under the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.

Highlighting the region’s industrial potential, Chouhan noted that Mandideep already hosts 752 operational units with exports worth Rs 20,000 crore.

The new plant is set to create over 5,000 local jobs and invigorate the MSME sector. He called the project not merely an industrial milestone but a “convergence of national interest, the Swadeshi movement, and youth empowerment.”

He reassured that “there will be no international agreement that harms farmers’ interests,” reiterating Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to safeguard the welfare of farmers, fishermen, and livestock rearers, even at a personal cost.

During the event, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed India’s economy as the world’s most “dashing and dynamic,” asserting that “no power in the world can stop it from becoming a big power globally.”

Without naming specific nations, he said some are uncomfortable with India’s rapid rise.

“They think that we are everyone’s boss and how is India moving forward so fast? Many people are trying to… make things made by the hands of Indians more expensive… so the people of the world do not buy them,” he remarked, in an apparent reference to recent high US tariffs on Indian goods.
