A Special Court for the trial of cases registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Pudukottai has ordered the collection of blood samples from 11 persons to perform DNA tests as part of the probe into the mixing of human faeces in a water tank used by Dalits of the Vengaivayal village.
The incident had come to light in December 2022 when people fell ill after using the water.
The order was granted after a request by a Deputy Superintendent of Police of the CB-CID, which is investigating the case.
The samples would be collected by an assistant professor from the Government Medical College in Pudukkottai and sent for testing to Chennai.
Recently, the Madras High Court, after hearing a plea for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), appointed a one-man commission led by M Sathyanarayanan, a retired judge to investigate the incident in addition to the ongoing investigation by the CB-CID.

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
