India on Tuesday (23 September) strongly slammed Pakistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in New York, accusing Islamabad of “bombing their own people” and highlighting its worsening internal situation, Indian Express reported.

Speaking during Agenda Item 4 of the UNHRC session, Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi accused Pakistan of “abusing” the forum with “baseless and provocative statements against India”.

"Instead of coveting our territory, they would do well to vacate the Indian territory under their illegal occupation and focus on rescuing an economy on life support, a polity muzzled by military dominance, and a human rights record stained by persecution, perhaps once they find time away from exporting terrorism, harbouring UN-proscribed terrorists, and bombing their own people,” Tyagi said.

Tyagi emphasised that the UNHRC should uphold universality, objectivity, and non-selectivity, urging its efforts to focus on consensus-building in a non-politicised, forward-looking manner.

India raised concerns about the growing number of country-specific mandates, warning they foster bias and selective focus, while diverting attention from shared global human rights challenges.

India reiterated that meaningful progress on human rights requires dialogue, cooperation, and capacity-building with state consent.

"At a time when the world is struggling with multiple crises, the Council’s work should be channelised into forging consensus through a non-politicised and forward-looking approach,” he added.

Tyagi’s sharp rebuke came after 24 people, including women and children, were killed in an explosion at a compound owned by the Pakistani Taliban in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party’s provincial branch and residents claimed that the “jet bombing” caused the explosion in the Tirah Valley.
