Ideas, innovation, and IT - Bengaluru is one place where you find an abundance of all three. At the intersection of the three, lies the biggest question facing any contemporary government - where will the jobs come from? Come 5 December, and you have a chance to attend a discussion on jobs designed to be thought-provoking, in Bengaluru.

On Wednesday, 5 December, R Jagannathan’s latest book, The Jobs Crisis In India, will be launched in your city. The chief guests at the event are, Nandan Nilekani, Non-Executive Chairman, Infosys and former Chairman of UIDAI; and Manish Sabharwal, Chairman and co-founder of Teamlease Services.

The biggest problem or opportunity for the current and many successive governments in India, is, and would be this: how to provide gainful employment to the millions of Indians entering the labour market every month?

That one question has several corollaries to it. How do we measure job growth or losses, and which data can be taken seriously? What role would automation play in all of this? What kind of jobs would be the first victims of automation? Is it wrong to expect manufacturing sector to provide jobs at a large scale now? What are the problems specific to India? Can Indian education system read market signals quickly and skill the labour force accordingly?

These questions and many others will be discussed threadbare at the book launch, following which there will be a book signing event.

See you there!

Date: 5 December, Wednesday
Time: 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm
Venue: TERI Complex, 4th Main Road, Domlur 2nd Stage, Bengaluru 560071
