Science and technology are the driving force of modern society. From battling a pandemic to creating systems that make life a tad bit convenient, science makes its presence felt everywhere and in every sphere of life.

In this context, science education assumes great importance. To make sense of the developments around us, whether arising in nature or created by humans, is only natural — Bethe has called it “a fundamental urge to comprehend the world.”

Swarajya, a premier magazine of ideas in politics, economy, culture, and science and technology, has been a platform for science and technology coverage over a long period of time. Over the years, it has hosted articles by many distinguished scientists, including even the legendary Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman.

Swarajya aims to continue responding to humans' “fundamental urge,” so we all can partake in the joy of science and technology.

With National Science Day 2022 — which marks the discovery of the Raman effect — right around the corner, Swarajya presents to you Swasti 22, short for Swarajya Science and Technology Initiative 2022.

The Initiative

Swasti 22 aims to put together educational articles on science and technology, written by and for students at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels, as well as the general public with an interest in science.

The Goal

We intend to publish 22 articles — to mark the year 2022 — every Monday and Wednesday between 28 February, National Science Day, and 11 May, National Technology Day.

Submissions

Original articles, based on information sourced from authoritative online and print sources, and indicated clearly as such, are invited from anyone who wishes to contribute to this science education initiative. Younger writers are especially encouraged to send in their entries.

The articles should be written such that they are easily accessible to students from high school through graduate level. If they are enjoyable to everyone from the science-and-technology professional to the starry-eyed science enthusiast, that’s even better. The article word count should ideally be in the range of 1,000 to 1,500 words.

You can submit your articles in areas like (but not limited to):

  • Spectroscopy

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Quantum Computing

  • Internet of Things

  • Next-generation Wireless Technologies 5G and 6G

  • Microprocessors and Instruction Set Architecture

  • Electric Vehicles and Battery Chemistry

  • Gravitational-wave Astronomy

  • Nuclear Energy

  • The submission window is open from 24 February to 31 March 2022. Articles should be submitted within this time frame.

To submit your article, use the Google form below. Type in details like your name and email address, and upload your article as a Word or PDF file.

Please submit your article — Gmail users here and non-Gmail users here.

    Prizes

Besides their article being featured online in Swarajya magazine, student contributors in particular stand to win prizes for their article submissions.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three placed articles, as judged by an in-house team.

    First prize: Rs 20,000

    Second prize: Rs 10,000

    Third prize: Rs 5,000

Come, join us for Swasti 22, a Swarajya initiative, and let’s share in the joy of science and technology together.
