Bihar Announces 10 Per Cent EWS Reservation In Judicial Services, Law Colleges After Releasing Caste Census Data

The Bihar government announced a 10 per cent reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in both judicial services and state-run law colleges and universities on Tuesday (3 October). This development followed the release of the initial data from the state's caste survey a day earlier.
The decision, made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, involves amendments to the guidelines of the State Judicial Services, 1951. This modification allows for a 10 per cent reservation for the EWS category in judicial services, as well as in state-run law institutes and universities, as reported by the Indian Express.
Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat) S Siddhartha stated, “The cabinet approved amendments in the guidelines of the State Judicial Services, 1951, allowing 10 per cent reservation for EWS category in judicial services and also in state-run law institutes and universities.” A detailed notification regarding this matter is expected to be issued by the concerned department soon.
The caste survey data revealed that Extremely Backward Communities (EBCs) constitute 36.01 per cent of the population, with an additional 27.12 per cent belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
In addition to the reservation announcement, the state cabinet approved the construction of 100 veterinary hospitals across different districts, with each facility having training centers.
Siddhartha mentioned, “A total of 100 first-class veterinary hospitals will be constructed in different districts of the state. Besides, there will be training centers at all these hospitals. For this, Rs 225 crore will be spent in 17 districts.”
The cabinet also gave the green light for the creation of 30 additional clerk posts to manage affairs related to the Consumers Affairs Department.
