Jack Ma, Chinese business magnate, investor and co-founder of Alibaba Group, has caused a stir among observers with his out-of-turn visit to Pakistan, as reported by The Express Tribune.

Muhammad Azfar Ahsan, the former chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI), has confirmed the visit to The Express Tribune, stating that Ma arrived in Lahore on 29 June and stayed for 23 hours.

During the visit, Jack Ma avoided interactions with government officials and the media. He resided at a private location and departed on 30 June via a private jet registered under the name VP-CMA, owned by Jet Aviation.

According to Ahsan, Ma's visit remains confidential at this point, but there is hope that it will yield positive outcomes for Pakistan in the days to come.

Ma arrived in Pakistan from Nepal via a chartered flight from Hong Kong's business aviation sector, accompanied by a delegation of seven businessmen. The delegation consisted of five Chinese nationals, one Danish individual, and one US citizen.

Speculations on social media suggest that Ma and his team are exploring business opportunities in Pakistan, including visits to trade centres and meetings with prominent businessmen and officials from various chambers of commerce.

However, there is no confirmation regarding any specific business deals or meetings. In a tweet, Ahsan clarified that Ma's visit was strictly for personal purposes.

He mentioned that even the Chinese embassy was unaware of the details of Ma's visit and engagements in the country.

Chairman of P@SHA, Zohaib Khan, spoke to The Express Tribune and remarked, "Although it was a personal visit, it helped enhance Pakistan's reputation from a tourism standpoint."

Khan also stated that in his opinion Pakistani authorities should have seized the opportunity to arrange a meeting with Ma and gain insights from his seasoned experience in the IT world. He stated that even a statement from Ma regarding Pakistan's IT sector would have a significant impact.
