Hyderabad: Indigenously Developed PCB Recycling Facility With 1 Tonne Per Day Capacity Inaugurated At C-MET

In a move to promote a circular economy and resource efficiency, a 1-tonne per day Printed Circuit Board (PCB) recycling facility was inaugurated in Hyderabad on Friday (27 January).
The facility was inaugurated by Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Alkesh Kumar Sharma at the Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET) in Hyderabad.
This facility is aimed at addressing the issue of electronic waste in India, which generates around 3.2 million tonne of electronic waste per year, containing precious materials like gold, palladium, and silver, as well as hazardous materials that can cause health hazards.
C-MET, an autonomous scientific society under the MeitY, has established a Center of Excellence on E-waste Management, the first of its kind in the country, under a public-private partnership model, the ministry said in a statement on Friday (27 January).
The centre has developed various e-waste recycling technologies, includingPCB recycling, Li-Ion battery recycling, permanent magnet recycling, and Si-solar cell recycling.
The PCB recycling technology developed by the centre is now ready for commercialisation and C-MET has also designed and fabricated the necessary processing equipment for the recycling process.
