India's Agricultural Exports Boom In FY23, Up By More Than 6 Per cent

India's agricultural exports have risen 6.04 per cent between April 2022 and January 2023 in comparison to the same period the previous year.

While agricultural exports amounted to $40.90 billion between April 2021 and January 2022, the figure is $43.37 billion for the same months in 2022-23.

During the financial year 2021-22, India’s agricultural exports touched the highest-ever level of $50.21 billion.

These figures were provided on Wednesday (29 March) by the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Anupriya Patel, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.

"Rise in agricultural exports improves realisations for farmers and has a positive impact on their income," Patel noted.

The Minister's written response also makes a mention of the various steps the Centre has taken to both lift up agricultural exports and ensure that the exports benefit farmers.

For the latter purpose, Patel mentions the Government of India's "Farmer Connect Portal," which provides a platform for farmer producer organisations and companies (FPOs and FPCs) as well as cooperatives to directly interact with exporters.

As for improving exports, Patel has noted that export strategies have been prepared in 28 states and Union territories.

Plus, under the "District as Export Hub" (DEH) initiative, products, including agricultural and processed food products, with export potential have been identified in all 733 districts across the country.

Patel's written reply makes a mention of many other measures.
