Active Covid-19 Case Count Crosses 1 Lakh After 122 Days; Experts Ask Not To Worry

Active Covid-19 cases in India crossed the one lakh mark again after 122 days.
Context: Daily Covid-19 count in India stood at over 18,000 after a gap of 130 days on 30 June, taking the Covid-19 tally to 43,452,164, as per the Union Health Ministry data.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.16 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 3.72 per cent.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 42,822,493, while the case fatality rate was 1.21 per cent.
The 39 new fatalities include 17 from Kerala, seven from Maharashtra, four from UP, three from Punjab, two each from Haryana, Karnataka, and West Bengal, and one each from Delhi and Sikkim.
Thus far, a total of 525,116 deaths have been reported in the country. More than 70 per cent of the deaths have occurred due to comorbidities, according to the government.
Vaccination progress: A total of 197.61 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
The Health Ministry, however, flagged concerns last month about the considerably slow pace of Covid-19 vaccination across states and UTs.
States and UTs have been urged to significantly expedite the pace towards full vaccination coverage by saturating all eligible beneficiaries.
The government has advised the states to plan for a two-month long “Har Ghar Dastak” campaign 2.0 during June-July, with detailed district-, block-, and village-level plans.
The objective of Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 is to vaccinate and saturate the eligible population groups for first, second, and precaution doses through door-to-door campaigns, with focused campaigns for old age homes, schools and colleges, including out-of-school children (for focused coverage of children aged 12-18 years), prisons, brick kilns, etc.
The rising cases should not worry the general population just yet. It's been observed that an overwhelming number of cases is non-fatal. However, overall health does have an impact on the severity of infection.
