All India Radio Podcast Highlighting Significant Contributions Of Ancient Indic Knowledge Discontinued
The All India Radio has discontinued a podcast that highlighted significant contributions of ancient Indian knowledge system.
The podcast series "Power of Listening" that started in August last year was discontinued after its last episode, titled 'Metallurgy in Ancient India' was aired on 9 September.
In a statement dated 9 September, the Central Education Planning Unit (CEPU), which was the producer of the series, informed about the airing of the last episode of the programme.
Why the podcast series was started
India, one of the world's oldest civilisations, has had a strong enduring traditions in the realm of Science, Mathematics and Technology, Air India Radio (AIR) had said in a statement.
Ancient India was a land of scholars and scientists. From making the best steel in the world to teaching the world to count, India has significantly contributed to the field of science and technology centuries before modern laboratories were established, the AIR said.
Many theories and techniques discovered by the ancient Indians have created and strengthened the fundamentals of modern science and technology. While some of these ground breaking contributions have been acknowledged, some are still unknown to most, it added.
With an aim to take take the vast repository of significant contributions of Traditional Indian Knowledge Systems, to the world, All India Radio commenced the programme titled "Power of Listening" on 27 August 2021.
Topics covered in the podcast series
The AIR produced 50 episodes of the special series and covered various topics during the course that includes Traditional Indian Chemistry, History of Mathematics in India, Kerala Schools of Mathematics and Astronomy, Trigonometry in Ancient India and Space Science in Ancient India.
Other topics covered in the series include Water in Atharva Veda, Animal Husbandry in Ancient India, Zero and Decimal Value System, Water in Atharva Veda, Ancient Indian science of Shipbuilding, the Genesis of Sanskrit Language and Literature, Trade and Commerce in Ancient India, Yoga, Acharya Sushrut, Acharya Charaka and Acharya Vagbhata among others.
