NewSpace Research, a Bengaluru-based start-up has delivered SWARM drones to Indian Army, which makes the Army the first major armed force in the world to operationalise these high-density SWARM drones, reported The Print.

SWARM Drones, The Print reports, are a group of autonomous UAVs which engage with each other using radio signals, to plan and complete various mission objectives using advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, without any human input or interference.

The delivery of these SWARM drones has begun on the eve of Aero India 2023 and Indian Army may be the first force in the world to operationalise such technology, the report says.

These SWARM drones were ordered under an emergency procurement route and were part of a wider push by the forces to operationalise cutting-edge unmanned technology in the forces.

The SWARM drones are capable of delivering explosives of different categories up to a range of 50 kilometers on moving targets like armoured vehicles and enemy artillery positions, the report says.

Each SWARM could operate 100 drones at a time and will be used to overwhelm enemy air defence.

Col Ramit Arora (Retd), Business Development head at NewSpace Research confirmed that the deliveries have started recently, without providing further details of the contract, the The Print reports.

Another company, Raphe Mphibr’s SWARM drones, which was part of a follow-on order, are also said to be close to delivery, the report says.
