The Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar wants more Agniveers in the Navy from Ladakh and Northeast region to join the Navy.

During an interview he stated "the Indian Navy has started the outreach mission with the Agniveer scheme which currently has representation from around 656 districts of the country in the Navy".

He mentioned that the representation from Ladakh and Northeast region of the country is extremely small, and the Navy wants to change this.

“We found that there is very little representation from Ladakh and the northeast region in the Navy. We are planning to go to Manipur and other states," the Admiral said.

He added that the Navy has started an outreach mission to increase the representation of Ladakh and Northeast region in the Agniveer scheme.

"Indian Navy has started the outreach mission with the Agniveer scheme which currently has representation from around 656 districts of the country in the Navy," the Admiral said.

Earlier, (on March 29), the first batch of 2,585 Agniveer's, including 272 female Agniveers, graduated from INS Chilka in Odisha, after completing a four-month-long training program.

Addressing the programme, Admiral Hari Kumar has then asked the Agniveers to develop a strong foundation of knowledge, willingness to learn and commitment to excel in their careers.

He has also urged them to uphold the Navy's core values of duty, honour and courage, in pursuit of nation-building.
