Flags of EU and India
The European Union (EU) is planning to re-initiate trade talks with India to give New Delhi an option to diversify ties away from Russia, Bloomberg reports.
The EU is also looking to pursue a technology council with India so that discussions could be held on issues like general data protection regulation, social media and digitalisation efforts.
EU is India's third-largest partner with goods worth $67.8 billion traded between the two parties.
Both the United States and the EU have been reportedly trying to develop closer relations with India amidst their growing hostility with Moscow.
Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, is likely to meet Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on 25th April.
Von der Leyen will also hold discussions with the Indian government over the sales of the European military equipment to New Delhi.
They will also explore the possibilities of forging joint ventures (JVs) over this issue.
"We want to offer an even broader relationship with India. My sense is they are interested in ideas (for) co-operation with us," an EU official was quoted in a report by the Financial Times.
