Kanpur Airport's new terminal (PIB)
New terminal building is being built at Kanpur airport (Chakeri airport), and 95 per cent of the construction has been completed.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has started work on a civil enclave at Kanpur airport to improve passenger facilities at Rs 143.6 crore.
The development plan includes constructing a new terminal building and an apron large enough to accommodate three A-321 aircraft. If all goes according to plan, the new terminal building might soon be available to the public.
On 19 September, District Magistrate Vishakh G inspected the new terminal building, which is still under construction. He stated that 95 per cent of the work had been completed, and orders had been given to finish the remaining work as soon as possible, reports Economic Times.
The terminal building will have sustainability features and a four-star GRIHA rating for energy efficiency. The famed JK Temple of Kanpur inspired the terminal's facade, which would also reflect regional art and heritage.
In October 2019, the construction work got underway. The construction should have been finished by now, but due to the delay, every effort is being made to finish it as soon as possible.
According to AAI, enhancing the capacity of the civil enclave at Kanpur Airport will boost connection to the city and spur regional growth.
