A 'Fail-Safe' Step: Mumbai Metro Insures All Commuters On Line 2A And 7

Commuter using Mumbai Metro line 2A and 7 will now have comprehensive insurance coverage ensuring their safety and security.
The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), which is the implementing authority for the project, has decided to obtain an annual comprehensive insurance policy after conducting a detailed risk analysis and taking into account the potential risks that may arise during the commute.
The move, the first for public transport in the city, is designed to enhance the overall commuting experience and promote the usage of public transportation in Mumbai and comes at a time when the daily average number of passengers travelling on the two lines is 1.70 lakh since the start of commercial operations in January this year.
While Line 2A runs from Dahisar to DN Nagar in Andheri West, Line 7 runs from Dahisar East to Gundavali, Andheri East.
The insurance policy provides coverage for accidents, disability, and death caused by unforeseen circumstances that may occur while traveling on these lines. In addition, it also covers medical expenses incurred due to accidents or injuries sustained during the commute.
The policy has a maximum coverage of Rs 1 lakh for hospitalization and up to Rs 10,000 for outpatient treatment. The policy provides compensation of up to Rs 5 lakh for death and up to Rs 4 lakh for permanent and partial disability, depending on the severity of the situation.
The policy covers passengers who have a valid ticket / pass / smart card / QR Code / Valid permission (except in areas where ticket is exempt) present either in a Mumbai Metro Building/ Station or in a train or anywhere in the station premises including paid & unpaid areas of the metro station building.
Chairman and managing director of MMOCL SVR Srinivas said, “Apart from all the safety and security measures in place, we realize that securing a passenger's commute for unforeseen circumstances is of utmost importance. Hence, we have provided comprehensive insurance coverage to our valued customers. With this policy in place, commuters can now travel with peace of mind, knowing that they have adequate insurance coverage in case of any unfortunate incidents.
