The foundation for several economic and infrastructure development projects will be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 11 November in Visakhapatnam.
Indian Railway officials have been informed that Modi will be in the coastal city to lay the groundwork for a Rs 400 crore project to modernise the Visakhapatnam Railway Station.
The redevelopment project will be constructed using an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) model. The officials stated a three-year timeline for the completion of the project.
Visakhapatnam is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. The growth of the IT sector in recent times has significantly boosted the economic activity in the city.
Redevelopment of the Visakhapatnam Railway Station will have a multiplier effect on the local economy and further accentuate growth in the region.
According to the Economic Times, Prime Minister Modi will also lay the groundwork for and officially open a number of government-funded initiatives, including the Rs 26,000 crore expansion and renovation of the Visakhapatnam HPCL petroleum refinery; the first phase of a new campus for IIM Visakhapatnam.
A ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the headquarters project of the South Coastal Railway Zone, the Visakhapatnam cruise terminal, a modern mega fishing harbour; and a Rs 385 crore 400-bed speciality hospital is also planned.
G V L Narasimha Rao, a Rajya Sabha member, stated that the Prime Minister's visit could feature a number of initiatives and advancements at Eastern Naval Command and other defence facilities in Visakhapatnam.
