Four RRTS trainsets reached the Duhai depot in Ghaziabad.
Stepping up the pace of work for India's first RRTS corridor, the construction of the fourth tunnel has commenced for the underground route in Meerut.
Besides, four trainsets of RRTS have already reached the Duhai depot in Ghaziabad. Currently all these trainsets are undergoing static and dynamic tests at the depot before being rolled out for the much awaited trial run shortly.
According to the NCRTC, two parallel tunnels are to be constructed from the north shaft of Gandhi Bagh towards Begumpul.
Out of these, the construction of one tunnel has already been completed. Now, the construction of the second tunnel has started with the launch of Sudarshan 8.3 (Tunnel Boring Machine) from the north shaft.
Sudarshan is a state-of-the-art and sophisticated Tunnel Boring Machine, whose every part is delicate.
Hence, after all the parts reached the launching shaft built at a depth of about 17 meters on the north shaft in Gandhi Bagh, experts examined all the TBM parts thoroughly and repaired and replaced them, as required.
Then the TBM was reassembled and tested and after ensuring its safe and efficient implementation, it has now been launched.
Sudarshan 8.3 made a breakthrough at Begumpul RRTS station after successfully constructing a 700-meter-long tunnel in the month of October. After the breakthrough, the TBM was dismantled in the shaft itself.
Its cutter head and shield were brought back to the launching shaft at Gandhi Bagh laden on trailers and the rest of the parts, backup gantry or TBM was taken back through the tunnel.
Meerut has three underground stations Meerut Central, Bhainsali and Begumpul on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS and Metro corridor.
To connect these stations, two parallel tunnels will be built in three parts. That means a total of six tunnels will be constructed.
The first parallel tunnel will be built between Bhaisali to Meerut Central (about 2 km),
the second parallel tunnel from Bhaisali to Begumpul (about 1 km) and
the third parallel tunnel from Gandhi Bagh to Begumpul (about 700 meters).
The construction of two of these six tunnels has been completed. The construction of a tunnel from Gandhi Bagh to Begumpul was completed in the month of October.
Whereas, a few days back Sudarshan 8.1 completed the construction of a tunnel from Bhaisali to Meerut Central Station.
Meanwhile, Sudarshan 8.2 is tunnelling another parallel tunnel from Bhaisali to Meerut Central Station. The process of lifting Sudarshan 8.1 out of the retrieving shaft will begin in a few days. Then this machine will be used to make a tunnel between Bhainsali to Begumpul stations.
NCRTC is going to provide services of Meerut Metro, the local transit services in Meerut on the RRTS network itself, which will have 13 stations at a distance of 25 km.
