Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor: Trial Runs On 17-Km Long Priority Section To Begin This Year

In a big boost to regional connectivity in Delhi-NCR region, the trial runs on the 17-km long priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Region Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, which connects Sahibabad to Duhai, will begin this year, reports Indian Express.
Further, the completed corridor will be opened for public use by March next year, officials were quoted in the report as saying.
The 82 km long Delhi-Ghaziabad Meerut RRTS corridor will have 25 stations, including two depots and one stabling yard.
The construction work on three interconnectivity stations of RRTS in Delhi at Anand Vihar, Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar have also been started.
At present, the work on the 16 km long viaduct of priority section and 1,200 piers as well as 9,900 piles have concreted and the foundation work for 56 km of corridor has been completed.
“More than 14,000 workers and 1,100 engineers are working day and night at our sites. Despite the challenges brought in by the Covid-19 pandemic, the progress of the project has been as per scheduled timelines," a senior official of the National Capital Regional Transport Corporation (NCRTC) was quoted in the IE report as saying.
Meanwhile, the Central Government has also allocated Rs 4,710 crore to the country’s first RRTS project in the Union Budget 2022-23 to boost connectivity in the NCR region, according to the NCRTC officials.
