Ending the uncertainties over the railway job recruitment schedule, the Indian Railways has come out with an annual calendar for employment notification for each category of posts.

As per the annual calendar prepared by the Railway Recruitment Boards, notification for recruiting Assistant Loco Pilots will be issued now in January-March, while April-June period will be for technicians every year.

Though the Railways carry out massive job recruitment drive from time to time, there was no fixed schedule for advertising jobs in different categories.

The Railways had recruited about five lakh employees in the last 10 years — which means about 50,000 recruitment in every year through Railway Recruitment Boards.

”There was a requirement for an annual calendar for job recruitment in the Railways so that it should be in a predicatble way for the candidates,“ said Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

He added that it would help those who want to participate in the Railway examination. "The job notification would be issued four times in a year now as it would give the candidates time to prepare and they would not have to wait for indefinite period," the Minister said.

The vacancies for the non-technical popular categories for graduates and non-graduates will be notified during July-September period.

The posts for junior engineers and paramedical categories will also be notified during July-September period every year.

The recruitment notifications for Level-1 categories, which are mostly track maintainers or gangmen, will be issued during October-December every year.

The vacancies for ministerial and isolated categories will also be issued in October-December period.

According to the Railways, the calendar system would provide the benefit of regular recruitment and more opportunities if one could not qualify in one attempt.

The new system would also give equal opportunities to those becoming eligible every year and better career progression for those selected. This would also result in faster recruitment process, training and appointments.
