An under construction expressway in Uttar Pradesh.
In a move that doubles the speed of construction, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be deploying a 3D Automated Machine Guidance (AMG) module for the 63-km Lucknow-Kanpur expressway.
The 3D AMG technology guides construction equipment during earthwork and paving using data from various sources like 3D engineered models and brings high precision and speed to construction work.
An NHAI official told The Times of India that these systems integrate a computer within the cab of construction equipment with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) satellites to relay position information from the GNSS receivers mounted on the machines.
Successful deployment of this technology in this expressway project can help NHAI implement the 3D AMG systems on a large scale in the highway sector.
Also, the technology enables officials and contractors to get live updates of the progress on their phones or computers.
To be constructed at the cost of Rs 4,700 crore, the Lucknow – Kanpur Expressway will be a 62 km long, 6-lane wide access-controlled expressway in Uttar Pradesh.
The expressway will connect Kanpur and Lucknow. The alignment will be parallel to NH-27, which connects Kanpur and Lucknow with about 8.5 km (5.3 mi) between existing and proposed parallel roads.
The expressway will start near Shaheed Path in South Lucknow ( connecting Bani, Kantha, Amarsas and terminate at Azad Marg Chauraha near Kanpur’s Ganga Bridge.
NHAI invited tenders to construct both packages under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) in September 2021.
While Package-1 is estimated to cost Rs 1,675 crore, Package-2 was valued at Rs 1,724 crore, and both come with a 2.5-year deadline.
