The development of the greenfield airport at the Dewas district will start soon, according to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Chouhan was speaking following the virtual launch of Alliance Air's flights from Gwalior to Indore and Jabalpur to Indore. CM Chouhan and Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, launched the flights via video link.

The construction of a new greenfield airport close to Indore has already received preliminary approval from the state government.

About 11,000 acres in the Dewas district would be acquired for this project.

Chouhan gave the assurance that his government would support the growth of aviation services and connectivity fully.

“This project will not only help in expanding air services across Madhya Pradesh, but will also promote tourism,” he said, reports Economic Times.

He stated that land has already been set aside for the airport at Chhapda and added that the length of the runways at Rewa and Ujjain would be extended.

Chouhan added that the state's central placement in the nation is advantageous for accessing any area of the country.

Indore, Jabalpur, and Gwalior are being connected by air services for the first time in a single day, according to Union Civil Aviation Minister Scindia, who also noted that the state's air traffic is growing.
