Proposed MSRDC's Revas-Karanja Bridge Over Dharamtar Creek

Leading engineering and construction firm SP Singla Constructions (SPSCL) has emerged as the lowest bidder to construct a new 2.04 km long, four-lane bridge linking Revas and Karanja over Dharamtar Creek in Raigad District proposed by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), The Metro Rail Guy reported.

The bridge is set to reduce the road journey time between Mumbai and Alibaug significantly.

Currently, it takes about two hours to cover the 70 km distance between Revas and Karanja. Once the bridge is constructed, it will reduce the time to about 10 minutes.

While ferry services operate between Revas and Karanja, they do not have a provision for carrying vehicles on board. Due to rough weather, ferry services are often suspended during the monsoon season.

Proposed Bridge Location

The bridge, on completion, will reduce the driving distance between Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai and Alibaug from around 55 km to 30 km. Once the under-construction Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) connecting Sewri with Nhava Sheva in Raigad is operational, the proposed bridge will also help tourists heading towards popular tourist spots like Murud.

MSRDC has envisaged the bridge as 29.50m wide with an 80 kmph design speed and a 1.5-metre wide footpath on either side for the use of locals and maintenance staff. A 5.13 km approach road will be built in Karanja, while a 1.71 km road on stilts will be constructed in Revas.

MSRDC had invited bids for the construction bridge in October 2022 with an Rs. 897.68 crore cost estimate and 36 months completion deadline.

Six firms were in contention to construct a new bridge between Revas and Karanja over Dharamtar Creek.
