The Digi Yatra service at the Delhi Airport. (Twitter).
Digi Yatra is set to expand to 14 more airports by the end of this month, amidst ongoing privacy concerns.
Efforts are also on to make the facility more user friendly with certain changes in the architecture, the CEO of Digi Yatra Foundation, Suresh Khadakbhavi told PTI.
The Digi Yatra initiative aims to make air travel smoother by using digital methods for passenger processing. This means less paperwork and easier movement through airport checkpoints like entry gates, security checks, and boarding gates.
Started as a voluntary programme by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in 2018, Digi Yatra faced some delays before being launched in December 2022 at three airports, including Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Currently operational at 14 domestic airports, Digi Yatra will soon be available at additional airports, including Bagdogra, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dabolim, Indore, Mangalore, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Vishakhapatnam.
Discussions are underway with the Ministry of External Affairs and other agencies to extend the service to international travellers as well, said Khadakbhavi.
The Digi Yatra app is not owned by the government, but by a consortium called the Digi Yatra Foundation — a not-for-profit entity, whose shareholders include the Airports Authority of India and five private airports, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi.
