Mumbai Metro Line 6: MMRDA Floats Tender Of Over Rs 2,000 Crore To Buy 108 Coaches And Signalling Systems

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has floated tenders to procure 108 standard gauge cars (coaches) for the operation of Metro Line-6 that runs from Swami Samarth Nagar in Andheri to Vikhroli.
Additionally, the scope of the Rs 2,064.63 crore tender involves procurement of signalling and train control, telecommunications, car-shed machinery, platform screen door (PSDs) for the project.
As per the bid document, the rolling stock required for the corridors shall be of modern design, lightweight made of stainless steel and suitable for unattended train operation.
There will be PSDs, installed at all platforms, acting as barrier between the track and the edge of the platform. These barricades will stop people from entering or falling in the track area.
The selected bidder will be responsible for design, manufacturing, supply, testing, commissioning of all the systems. Additionally, the bidder shall provide comprehensive maintenance for 17 years, which includes two years of defects liability maintenance.
Stretching over 15.31 kilometres, the fully elevated line connects Western Express and Eastern Express Highways, and has 13 stations, with the maintenance depot at Kanjurmarg.
Construction of the Mumbai Metro Line-6, is currently over 60 per cent finished and is expected to complete by November or December 2024.
The project with an estimated cost of Rs 6,716 crore is being funded through the National Development Bank.
