NTPC's Renewable Energy Arm To Build India's Largest Green Hydrogen Plant In Andhra Pradesh

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has signed an agreement with the government of Andhra Pradesh to establish India's largest green hydrogen production facility as part of Pudimadaka hub.
The land lease agreement was signed between NGEL and Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation for the project near Pudimadaka village of Atchutapuram Mandal in Visakhapatnam district, NTPC said in a statement.
"The Pudimadaka Green Hydrogen Hub aims to create a world-class ecosystem for technologies in the new energy paradigm, such as electrolyser and fuel cell manufacturing, related ancillary industries, startup, incubation, testing facilities, production and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives," the statement said.
The project involves building India's largest green hydrogen production facility, capable of producing 1,200 tonnes per day, which will be converted to derivatives of hydrogen such as green ammonia and green methanol, primarily catering to various export markets.
NTPC, India's largest integrated power utility, currently has an installed capacity of 74 GW, providing a quarter of India's total electricity. By 2032, it aims to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 45-50 per cent including 60 GW of renewable energy with a total portfolio of 130 GW.
To achieve this, NTPC has established a fully-owned subsidiary, NGEL, focusing on renewable energy projects, including green hydrogen and energy storage technologies.
NGEL already operates with more than 3.4 GW capacity and has 26 GW more in the works, including 7 GW currently under construction.
